Meet the artist
My favorite medium is:
Paint and mono-type print making when making visual art, otherwise, a pencil, for transforming inspiration into printed words
The best place to create my work is:
Outdoors or anywhere inspiration strikes
I am most inspired by:
I have been using art to explore issues related to Louisiana environments for the past several years, using my art to reflect on the many ways we measure progress, as a commentary on beautification and gentrification.
The craziest thing I've ever done to create an art piece was:
Suspend myself on an 11 foot ladder outside on a very windy day (I have a fear of heights).
I'm currently working on:
Beauxtanicals, a series of work that integrates African and European cultural motifs to explore beauty and interconnection that is the United States cultural heritage and legacy and, in collaboration with another New Orleans-based artist Justin Batiste, a book for the Ashé Cultural Arts Center that chronicles West African and Haitian symbols in New Orleans iron work designs.
I collect:
Leaves, feathers, pieces of conversation, twigs, books, bits of fabric, paper, things other people think of as worn out
